On May 29, 2025, NGO “Vision Zero” (Ukraine) will host an English-language online presentation showcasing the results of a sustainable post-war restoration project for the community of Konotop in Sumska oblast, Ukraine. This project, conducted between October 2024 and May 2025, focused on two key components:
- Integrated and Accessible Redesign of Pryvokzalna Ploshcha (Station Square): The city aims to transform this current parking area into a modern and accessible mobility hub and a green, climate-resilient public space. The new design, aligned with best EU practices, integrates public transport, bicycle infrastructure, parking facilities, public areas, and opportunities for business use.
- Strategy for the Modernisation and Development of the Konotop Tramway System: A comprehensive strategy for Konotop's tramway system has been developed. Based on a thorough analysis of the current situation, it presents an ambitious yet realistic vision for future network expansion and a strategic approach to the rolling stock.

The content of this project holds significant relevance for numerous other cities across Ukraine. As of 2022, 18 Ukrainian cities operated tram systems, often facing similar challenges to Konotop. Furthermore, hundreds of cities of Ukraine have large railway station squares currently utilized as parking lots that need to be redesigned in a modern, sustainable and climate-resilient way. We sincerely invite you and your colleagues to join this presentation and explore insights on local challenges and visionary post-war urban projects for cities in the East and South of Ukraine.
This event is part of the project “Climate-Neutral and Accessible Transport Infrastructure of Konotop” implemented by the NGO "Vision Zero" based on a Memorandum of Cooperation with the city of Konotop, with the support of the European Climate Foundation. The NGO “Vision Zero” was founded in Ivano-Frankivsk in 2016 and is a member of the Platform “Build Ukraine Back Better”, the Coalition RISE Ukraine and the international association Transport & Environment.
